Latest Updates from Our Project:

4,000 Luna Units Begin Shipping This Week
over 5 years ago – Wed, Aug 15, 2018 at 01:47:39 AM

Good news, Luna community! Over 4,000 Luna units have arrived at our distribution facility in Atlanta and are being prepared for shipment. A majority of these units are USB-C units, which will begin shipping out later this week. Once these units are delivered, we will have fulfilled roughly 60% of all Kickstarter orders.

When your Luna leaves the distribution facility, you will receive an email confirmation with a tracking link. Please allow 1-2 weeks for domestic delivery (up to 4 weeks for international orders).

On track to fulfill all units by December 2018

Orders are being fulfilled on a rolling basis over the coming months, and all Luna Display units will be delivered by the end of December 2018. While we are unable to provide the specific date for an individual delivery, it is our top priority to get a Luna unit into your hands as soon as possible. For more information on shipments, please visit our Shipment FAQ.

Production for remaining Mini DisplayPort units begins next month

During testing, we ran into more challenges with the mDP design than we did with USB-C (we have to support over 70 Mac models for mDP versus only a handful of Mac models for USB-C). All design issues have since have been corrected. We’ll begin another manufacturing round in the first weeks of September — this time focused on producing the remaining Mini DisplayPort units. Stay tuned for more updates!

Second production batch complete, more Lunas out for delivery
almost 6 years ago – Wed, Jul 25, 2018 at 01:25:47 AM

Luna production is in full swing! Last week, our co-founder Giovanni travelled to China to oversee the second official manufacturing batch of Luna Display units. By now, many elements of the production process have been optimized to handle thousands of units — allowing us to scale up to 3,000 USB-C units and 1,000 Mini DisplayPort units in this batch. The video below shares a behind-the-scenes look into our latest manufacturing round, from assembly to quality testing to packaging each Luna unit.

Third production batch scheduled for late August

The units from our second production batch are currently in route to our distribution center in Atlanta and will be shipped out to backers soon after their arrival. Between our Kickstarter backers and pre-orders, we have a total of 8,551 Luna Display orders to fulfill. We fulfilled 7% of those orders (655 units) following our first batch of Luna production in June. Our next production round is planned for the end of August/ beginning of September, at which point we will fulfill 80% of USB-C orders and 30% of Mini DisplayPort orders.

All units will be delivered by the end of December 2018

Orders are being fulfilled on a rolling basis over the coming months, and all Luna Display units will be delivered by the end of December 2018. While we are unable to provide the specific date for an individual delivery, it is our top priority to get a high-quality Luna unit into your hands as soon as possible. You will receive a confirmation email with tracking info when your order ships. For more information on shipments, please visit our Shipment FAQ.

A note about Mini DisplayPort production

Because our USB-C production is ahead of Mini DisplayPort production, USB-C units will be fulfilled first, followed by Mini DisplayPort units. We aren't favoring one particular model over the other. During testing, we ran into more issues with the mDP design than we did with USB-C (we have to support over 70 Mac models for mDP versus only a handful of Mac models for USB-C). All design issues have since have been corrected, and our next production run will include both mDP and USB-C models.

Frequently Asked Questions About Your Luna Shipment
almost 6 years ago – Thu, Jun 28, 2018 at 11:23:07 PM

When is my order going to ship?

Orders are being fulfilled on a rolling basis over the coming months. All Luna Display units will be delivered by the end of December 2018. While we are unable to provide the specific date for an individual delivery, it is our top priority to get a high-quality Luna unit into your hands as soon as possible.

Because our USB-C production is ahead of Mini DisplayPort production, USB-C units will be fulfilled first, followed by Mini DisplayPort units. Please note we are only shipping complete orders — if you ordered both USB-C and mDP units, your order will not ship until we have both units.

How can I make changes to my order?

To change your address or order (including switching ports from USB-C to mDP) go to https://lunadisplay.backerkit.com/. On the final confirmation screen, you can edit shipping information, pledge information or add ons.

If your order is already locked down (you will have received an email about this), please contact [email protected] with any changes you would like to make to your order.

Why is the shipping date December 2018 if you already shipped 500 units?

We are manufacturing Luna in multiple batches over the coming months. Breaking the production schedule into batches ensures that each Luna unit can be carefully inspected for quality before it is sent to our distribution center. We are fulfilling units on a rolling basis, and all Luna units will be manufactured and delivered by the end of 2018.

Why are you shipping USB-C units before Mini DisplayPort units?

We aren't favoring one particular model over the other. USB-C production has been a few months ahead of mDP. During testing, we ran into more issues with the mDP design than we did with USB-C (we have to support over 70 Mac models for mDP versus only a handful of Mac models for USB-C). All design issues have since have been corrected, and our next production run will include both mDP and USB-C models.

What countries does Luna ship to?

We currently ship to the United States, European Union, Switzerland, Japan and Canada. If you are interested in Luna but live outside of these countries, you can sign up for our Luna mailing list and we will notify you when we expand our shipping destinations: http://eepurl.com/cO5Jcj

What happened to my Luna bundle (Artist Bundle, 2-Pack, 5-Pack, etc)?

We are only shipping out complete orders of Lunas — if you ordered a Transition Kit or if your order contains one of each port, they will be fulfilled when we have enough inventory of each port type. The multi-packs will be fulfilled last as we have limited quantities at this point and want to be able to fulfill the orders of as many backers as possible.

We are currently creating the framework to support subscription activation for the Artist Bundles. If you have purchased an Artist Bundle and would like to activate your subscription before your Luna arrives, please contact us at [email protected].

Astropad is not working with my Luna device — what’s up with that?

We will be releasing a new version of Astropad (both Astropad Standard and Studio) at the end of July that includes support for Luna Display. It’s going to be astro-mazing!

I received my Luna, but I have some problems or questions. Can you help me?

We can help! Please contact us at [email protected].

I want to buy more Lunas! Can I do it?

Yes, we are accepting pre-orders at lunadisplay.com. Pre-orders will be fulfilled after Kickstarter orders, with an estimated delivery of January 2019.

500 Lunas Delivered, More in Production Over the Next Few Months
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jun 26, 2018 at 11:34:06 PM

Hey Kickstarter community! As we roll into summer, things have been heating up on the Luna frontier. Earlier this month, we pressed “go” on our first official production round and fulfilled the first 500 orders of USB-C units. Here’s a breakdown of the current state of Luna’s production and delivery timeline:

Production will be completed in batches

We will be manufacturing Luna in multiple batches over the coming months. Breaking the production schedule into batches ensures that each Luna unit can be carefully inspected for quality before it is sent to our distribution center.

We manufactured 500 units in our first batch earlier this month, and our next round of production will begin on July 9th. We will share the details of each production round as we go through more manufacturing batches in the coming months.

We are on track to deliver all Luna units by the end of December 2018

We remain confident in our timeline to deliver all units by the end of this year. Our fulfillment schedule is based on two components — unit type and order date:

USB-C units will be fulfilled first, followed by Mini DisplayPort units. From there, we are fulfilling units in the order in which they were placed, beginning with Super Early Bird and working through the Early Bird, Kickstarter Special 1, and Kickstarter Special 2 tiers.

We are unable to provide the specific date in which an individual’s Luna will be delivered. However, it’s our top priority to get a high-quality Luna unit into your hands as soon as possible.

You will receive shipping confirmation when your Luna is out for delivery

When a fresh batch of Lunas arrives at our distribution center, they will immediately be packaged and prepared to ship to customers. At this time, we will send you an email asking you to finalize your order preference and shipping address.

Once your unit is shipped, you will receive a separate shipping confirmation email that includes a tracking number. To account for processing and ground shipping time, we expect your Luna will be delivered within 1-2 weeks after you receive shipping confirmation (international customers may experience slightly longer delivery times due to customs procedures).

Let’s stay in touch

Over the coming months, we’ll be posting a Kickstarter update each time a new batch of Lunas is in production. In the meantime, we want to hear from you! If you’ve received your Luna and have feedback or questions, please get in touch. You can email us at [email protected] or connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Beta Program, Round Two: Testing Luna in Everyday Workflows
almost 6 years ago – Fri, Jun 01, 2018 at 10:22:53 PM

Luna Working Reliably Across All Mac Models

From the very beginning of Luna’s journey, it’s been our top priority to make sure that Luna is a reliable and high-quality addition to your workspace. A big part of that promise is guaranteeing that Luna meets our performance standards across all Mac models, which requires extensive testing.

To help us out with this, at the end of April we issued a call for beta testers. We were so thrilled with the volume of people who volunteered to help us test Luna prototypes! Thank you to everyone who offered their time.

Early last month, we shipped out 200 beta units across the United States. We first asked our volunteers to plug in Luna and run the Luna Integrity Test — our test that verifies Luna’s compatibility with each Mac model. We accounted for every Mac model and variant that Apple has made over the last ten years, which amounts to more than 70 versions of Macs that we needed to test with Luna.

In November 2017, Luna only passed the test on 50% of Mac models. In January, Luna was at 90% compatibility. After months of refinements from our firmware team, we are happy to report that the recent beta units achieved 100% compatibility across all Mac models. 🙌

Positive Feedback from Beta Volunteers

Following the Integrity Test, our beta volunteers were able to take Luna for a test run to see how it performed in their everyday workflows. We were excited to receive so much positive beta feedback, especially after spending months fine-tuning Luna’s performance. Here are some highlights:

“I’m amazed at the performance thus far, and it’s great having a retina screen available to use for my non-Retina MacBook Pro." — Jose

“It's amazing… Honestly, I'm blown away with it. I showed my friend this morning and he is going to order one right away!” — Michael

“Luna set up went smoothly with my Mac Mini. I'm thrilled that the iPad Pro keyboard is supported in Luna already. I'm using Luna on headless Mac Mini and it's already making it possible for me to use the iPad Pro as a full laptop replacement. — Conrad
